How to Play CrossSearch

A crossword-style word puzzle. Four words intersect on a grid — guess them all before your guesses run out.

The Goal

Solve all four words hidden in the crossword grid. Words run either Across (horizontal) or Down (vertical) and share at least one letter where they cross.

Your Guess Budget

5
Guesses per word
14
Total guesses for the puzzle

You have up to 5 guesses per individual word, but only 14 guesses total across the whole puzzle. Spend them wisely — burning 5 guesses on one word leaves only 9 for the other three.

Making a Guess

  • Click a word in the Words list, or click any of its cells on the grid, to select it.
  • Type your guess using the on-screen keyboard or your physical keyboard.
  • Press Enter to submit. Press to delete the last letter.
  • Your guess must be exactly the right length — no more, no less.

Reading the Tile Colors

A
Green — correct letter, correct position
R
Amber — correct letter, wrong position
T
Gray — letter not in this word

The keyboard updates after each guess to show the best-known status for each letter — for the currently selected word only. Switch words and the keyboard resets to reflect that word's history.

Cross-Reveals

When you correctly guess a letter at an intersection, it appears automatically in the crossing word too. Use these free letters to your advantage — they show up as green on the keyboard when you switch to that word.

Daily Puzzle

A new puzzle is generated every day at midnight. Everyone playing on the same day gets the same four words. Your progress is saved automatically, so you can close the page and come back later to finish.

💡 Tip: Start with the longest word — more letters means more information per guess and more potential cross-reveals for the shorter words.

Custom Puzzles

Click Custom ⚙ in the header to enter your own four words and build a custom crossword. Words must be 4–5 letters and share at least one letter so they can intersect. Great for playing with friends!
